Yaki Onigiri Recipe – Japanese Rice Balls

Simple to make yet super flavorful, this fun, crispy appetizer goes well with any other meal ideas. Try something new and impress your dinner guests!


2 cups cooked sushi rice
1 Tbsp. butter


Miso Paste
1 Tbsp. white miso
1 Tbsp. toasted sesame seeds
1 Tbsp. of Mizkan Seasoned Rice Vinegar
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. water
1 scallion, thinly sliced


  1. Cook rice according to package directions.
  2. Combine all miso paste ingredients and set aside.
  3. When rice is cooked divide into 7 portions. Shape rice into triangles.
  4. In sauté pan, melt butter and sear both sides of the rice triangles.
  5. Brush both sides with paste and cook on both sides until crispy. Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds.
